From Field to Fork at Durham College

The rain didn’t stop us from enjoying every bite at the Durham College Centre for Food’s Harvest Dinner last month. The menu featured food grown and harvested by Durham College food and farming students, cooked by the culinary students and served by the hospitality and event planning students. It was the most delicious collaboration!

The event celebrated the “Field to Fork” mission of the program at Durham College which highlights the importance of sourcing products from local farmers and sustaining Ontario’s agricultural tradition. Feast On Chef Jamie Kennedy was in attendance for the dinner as he stands behind this vision and mission.

Food was served family style and spanned four courses followed by a stunning dessert spread. The standouts were the Pan Seared Linwood Acres Trout, Watermelon and Durham College Feta Salad, Green Soybean and Wheat Berry Salad and the Smoked Ontario Turkey with Braised Fennel and Cranberries. Each dish was colourful and flavourful!

Proceeds from the event went to fund bursaries for students enrolled in the Centre for Food’s culinary, baking, food and farming, event and hospitality programs.
