Agatha’s Pick

HYGGE 2018 Oak Aged Farmhouse Ale

Sawdust City Brewing Company, Gravenhurst, ON
sawdustcitybrewing.com

“When it comes to holiday parties, I like bringing around beer that starts a conversation. I’m currently doing the rounds with Hygge. It’s an oak-y, slightly funky farmhouse ale made with Riesling grape must from Malivoire winery. It’s delicious, cozy – but not dark – something I’m always looking for in a crowd pleasing beer. I’ve converted many wine-only folks to beer thanks to this bottle! It’s also got a very adorable puppy drawing on the label, which always gets folks smiling!”

Peller Estates Signature Series Ice Cuvée

Peller Estates Winery, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON
peller.com

“I rarely show up at a holiday party without a bottle of bubbly in hand. One of my favourites is Peller Estates Signature Series Ice Cuvée. It’s what I like to call a showstopper because it’s a crisp sparkling and that’s sweetened by the small dosage of Vidal Ice wine.”

Megan’s Pick

2016 South Clos Pinot Noir

Closson Chase, Prince Edward County, ON
clossonchase.com

“I recently had the chance to visit Closson Chase with some pals. We had the best time chatting with the owner and may have eaten too much of the Fifth Town Buffalina Buffalo Gouda that they offered in-between tastings. I’m no wine aficionado but I enjoyed the earthy, cherry flavours and warm dryness of this Pinot. I literally just bought a bottle to share with friends this week.”

Dillon’s Rose Gin

Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers, Beamsville, ON
dillons.ca

“I like stirring up trouble cocktails for friends at this time of year. Dillon’s rose gin goes great in a French 75 (like this one from their site!) using Hinterland’s Whitecap from The County.”

“This is my go to beer, it is a sure-to please lager with a crisp, balanced, and refreshing taste. The four pack is good for a crowd and easy to carry too!”

Sheldon Creek Holiday Eggnog

Sheldon Creek Dairy, Loretto, ON
sheldoncreekdairy.ca

“At this time of year, I like to show up with Sheldon Creek Holiday Eggnog because bottles come in all shapes and sizes, and who’s to say this seasonal staple can’t be spiced up with a little (or a lot) of quality rum.”

Rose Sparkling

Redstone Winery, Beamsville, ON
redstonewines.ca

“It’s always a good time when there are pink bubbles on the agenda! One of my new favorite discoveries is the rose sparkling from Redstone Winery. It’s fabulous! I make sure to have a glass in their Feast On Certified dining room whenever I visit, but I’ve stocked up for all the holiday parties I’m headed to as well!”

Hot Sauce

Plant YYZ, Toronto, ON
theplantyyz.com

“Some people bring bottled drinks, I bring bottled hot sauce. Plant YYZ’s zingy and flavourful Ontario hot sauces are a favourite these days. A bottle makes a great hostess gift and also can be helpful in emergency situations involving under-seasoned foods.”
