Canadian Food & Wine Institute to Deliver Brew Academy at MacLean’s Ales

HANOVER, ONTARIO — The Town of Hanover is thrilled to announce a partnership between MacLean’s Ales, Launch Pad Youth Activity and Technology Centre and the Canadian Food & Wine Institute at Niagara College to offer a one-week intensive program; Canada’s first Teaching Brewery delivers extensive hands-on training in an on-site, state-of-the-art facility – Hanover’s own craft brewery, MacLean’s Ales.

Join their team of brewing experts April 8 – 12, 2019, which will include MacLean’s Ales founder, Charles MacLean. You will be guided through a specific style of beer, and follow the process through from start to finish. The course will cover topics such as Brewery operations; Process of brewing; and How to choose yeast and hop varieties.

“The classroom portion will be instructed at Launch Pad Youth Activity and Technology Centre and move to MacLean’s Ales for all hands-on training, where participants can experience a day in the life of a brewery first hand,” said April Marshall, the Town of Hanover’s Economic Development Manager. “This is an exciting opportunity for Hanover, as we are able to offer extended programming and training options to the region and showcase our assets, while supporting initiatives that contribute to workforce development and collaboration.”

“There are many breweries in our region that will benefit from this training opportunity,” said MacLean’s Ales VP Sales & Marketing, Co-founder, Curtis Schmalz. “Charles is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and experience to support industry growth and the chance to expose this career opportunity to up-and-coming brewers.”

Jeff Steen, Manager of Part Time Studies and Corporate Training at the Canadian Food & Wine Institute added, “This is an exciting opportunity for us to deliver our program in a new region and expose people to Niagara College’s training opportunities, partnering with true industry professionals.”

This one-week intensive program is being offered in five modules: Discover Brew Ingredients, Brew Production, Day in the Brewery, Brew Packaging and Brewery Trends, Operations & Health and Safety. Sign-up for one or for all to complete the course!
