Perfect Weekends: Toronto in the Summer

Summer is simply the best time to be in Toronto. After what feels like a never-ending hibernation, the city — and it’s many sun-soaked patios, are bursting with life. There are so many things going on, from beer and food truck festivals to outdoor theatre events and farmers markets. Its almost too much to handle!

Weve asked our residence tourist, Joy Bauwens, who came all the way from Belgium to learn about food tourism development, to put together the perfect summer weekend in #TheSix to make things a little easier for you!

Get inspired by this perfect summer weekend in Toronto!

  1. If youre from out of town, book yourself a room, or more precisely, a cabin at the Making Waves Boatel. This floating B&B is the ideal summer stay, because youre on boat! The “boatel” is only ashore during the summer season, so enjoy it while you can. In the morning, Diane has a delicious breakfast waiting for you on the deck. They also have a few bicycles for rent, which can come in handy when exploring the city!
  2.
  3. Go to the Evergreen Brick Works Farmers Market (there is a free shuttle from Broadview station) and buy some food, fresh from the farm. Dont worry about lunch, there are loads of Feast On certified serving up delicious thing! Order the Ontario duck paella from Pimenton with King Cole duck or get a Belgian waffle from Wafel Huis for dessert. We promise youll get the real deal. Jan, the proud owner is a true Belgian in heart and soul!
  4.
  5. Once you’ve stocked up, grab a blanket and head for Colonel Samuel Smith Park! Believe it or not, the view on the city is even more breathtaking than from the Toronto Islands, and there are fewer crowds! Win-win.
  6.
  7. In the afternoon, soak up some history on a stroll in the Distillery District. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Toronto with beautiful red brick buildings. Experience it fully by planning a Sake A to Z- Brewery Experience. An expert guide will share his knowledge and you will get to taste four different sake types, all made on site in the Distillery District.
  8.
  9. For dinner, head to Feast On certified Farmhouse Tavern and ask for a seat on the patio. Munch on some housemade sausages, pickles and other treats before heading to Shakespeare in High Park. Youll get to cross out ?watching a play under the stars from your to do-list. This outdoor theatre festival will take you back to the 1600s with two of Shakespeares plays: The Twelfth Night and King Lear.
