When it comes to cheese, Canada’s Dairy Capital tends to think big. Building on the successful launch of Big Cheese Days in 2016, Oxford County Tourism is growing this May’s event from one Saturday to four.
On Saturday May 6, 13, 20 and 27, visitors who tour and taste their way along the Oxford County Cheese Trail will enjoy special touring experiences, discount offers, tastings, demonstrations and more at the 23 cheese makers, restaurants, retailers and attractions featured along the Trail.
2017 highlights to mark for your cheesy adventure include:
- Cheese maker tours at two of the areas most celebrated dairies: Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese and Mountainoak Cheese
- Live music and a new brew launch at the Upper Thames Brewery
- Fun photo opps and cheese-themed games at the Ingersoll Cheese Museum
- Exhibit tours at the Woodstock Art Gallery
This is a great opportunity to try the new collaboration from Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese and Upper Thames Brewing Company. Driven by a love for locally crafted artisanal cheese and beer, the two recently paired up to create the “Dark Side of the Moo” cheese. Gunn’s Hill uses their Oxford Harvest cheese to soak in Upper Thames Brewing Company’s Dark Side chocolate stout beer for three days and then ages it for three months. We’ll take three wheels please!
Whether learning trade secrets, snacking on local cheeses, picking up an antique cheese slicer or learning about the region’s 150 years of rich cheese history, the Oxford County Cheese Trail offers 23 unique stops that will appeal to cheese lovers of all ages.
