Fireside Icewine Marshmallows
“There’s something magical about sitting outside, by the fire, when it’s snowing. With a little luck, that’s what you get when you visit Peller Estates in mid-winter. They lace their homemade marshmallows with icewine, spear them with a grape vine and send you into the vineyard to roast them yourself. It’s pretty special and a great treat after a day of touring Wine Country!”

A Snowshoe Hike in the Kawarthas
“Winter is a great time to go off trail. Since there aren’t many leaves on the trees it’s easy to traverse through the forest to find animal tracks, unexplored areas, and exciting new views. After a long hike, it’s great to settle down with a hot stew made from local, seasonal vegetables.”

Winterfest 2017 in Goderich
“This winter I can’t wait to head to Goderich for Winterfest, taking place during the first weekend in February. I am most looking forward to the chili cook-off where I will eat all the chill. For a the cold, I’ll head over to Cait’s Cafe for a hot cup of organic tea and a piece of their walnut maple cheesecake. It’s quite beautiful in Goderich this time of year, even in the depths of winter!”

Skating The Rideau Canal
“Skating outdoors is one of my favourite winter activities! Whether it�s gliding along the Rideau Canal with a beaver tail in hand, being one with nature at the skate trail at Arrowhead Provincial Park, or just a game of shinny in your backyard with friends, being on the ice feels so quintessentially Canadian. I like to complete the day with a warm mug of mulled Ontario wine.”

Visiting the Winter Farmers Market at Evergreen Brickworks
“Nothing beats finding local food in the winter! While the EBW Winter Farmer’s Market may have a few less vendors than their summer market, those that do attend have a lot of the essentials my family and I need to keep eating well over the winter. The bonus? Free skate rentals and a super cute rink to skate around with the kids. When we’re done, we bee-line for a cup piping hot Pluck Tea at Cafe Belong each!”.

Keep It Simple, Take A Walk
“There’s something special about experiencing the outdoors in the Winter months and allowing yourself the time and space to take a deep cool breath. I enjoy nothing more than walking my dogs on a sunny day in the farmers’ fields behind my childhood home south of Ottawa. If I’m in Toronto, I’ll head to High Park with a hot chocolate in hand. That’s the beautiful thing about Ontario, there’s always a little bit of nature next door.”
