Pick Your Own Adventure: Exploring Ontario’s Asparagus Fields This Season
Springtime in Ontario is a real treat, from bursting tender fruit blossoms to farm gates beginning to open for the season, the possibilities for delicious adventures are endless!
As one of Canada’s leading asparagus producers, Ontario welcomes you from early May through June to savour the fresh tastes of asparagus season. One of our favourite ways to enjoy this little gem of a season is by visiting a local farm to pick your own fresh spears directly from the fields.
Important to Note
We have a roundup of five asparagus farms to pick-your-own this season. Please note that opening dates change with the growing season so it’s always best to call ahead or check out the farm’s social media channels for when pyo asparagus is ready to be harvested!
Barrie Hill Farms
Where: 2935 Barrie Hill Rd, Springwater, ON (View Map)
For over 40 years Barrie Hill Farms has been one of Southern Ontario’s favourite family-friendly farms. With a variety of seasonal pick-your-own experiences visitors can hit the fields and pick the freshest in season fruits and veggies including strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, pumpkins, and more!
From May to June the farm’s most unique experience to sink your teeth into is picking your own fresh asparagus directly from the patch! While you’re there, be sure to enjoy a scenic wagon ride around the fields, and stop at the farm market to pick up some freshly baked goods and local groceries to snack on during your ride home.
Andrew Scenic Acres Farm Market and Winery

Known for their staple autumnal experiences in Halton Hills, Andrew Scenic Acres transforms during asparagus season offering visitors a welcome change in pace to harvest perfect little spears from late spring into early summer.
Hands-on experiences visitors can enjoy on the farm rotate seasonally making it a signature destination for Ontario day-trippers year-round.
Pingles Farm Market

Bringing farm fresh flavour and fun just north of Lake Ontario in Durham Region, Pingle’s Farm Market is the ultimate stop for a day filled with activities and fresh spring produce!
Once you’re done picking your own fresh asparagus from the field, stay a while longer to explore the farm’s sprawling playland. Attractions include mini putt, a racetrack, and a sandbox, making it an ideal experience for family outings or a day trip with friends. Additionally, Pingle’s offers a farm shop where guests can purchase freshly picked produce and other local products, for a truly unique and well rounded farm-to-table experience.

Ye’s Farm

Also known as the Bradford Asparagus Farm, located in Bradford, ON, Ye’s Farm invites visitors to pick their own asparagus throughout each weekend in May.
For first time visitors or those unsure of how to harvest asparagus the farm offers a crash course sharing detailed instructions on how to properly harvest asparagus to help you optimize your bounty!
Rideau Pines Farm

Fill up your basket with everything from pickling cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers, corn, garlic, and berries, including the opportunity to harvest fresh asparagus straight from the field.
