1. Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest
No visit to KDub in the fall is complete without a visit to Canada’s greatest Bavarian festival, and as the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Munich, you’re guaranteed to have the spirit of Gemütlichkeit spreading through your soul (probably via your tastebuds).
Head to Hapsburg Haus to indulge in the Alpine Club’s famous apple strudel and the Transylvania Club’s delectable pig tails, or make your way out to Hubertushaus in Manheim to savour rollbraten – pork tenderloin barbequed on a rotisserie – served with home-made spaetzle.
Raise your stein at Willkommen Platz in Downtown Kitchener or Bingemans all through Thanksgiving Weekend, and continue the party at Concordia Club the weekend after that, too!
2. Spookyboi: Four Fathers Brewing Co.
Four Fathers Brewing Co. is located in the hamlet of Hespeler, and the only PSL you’ll find on their menu is a Pumpkin-spiced Lager called Spookyboi. With notes of cinnamon and pumpkin spice, this will have you channeling your inner #spookyszn. To continue the Oktoberfest vibes, we recommend pairing your brew with a pretzel – these are brought in fresh from Grainharvest Breadhouse, one the the region’s best bakeries.

3. The Seasonal Menu at odd duck wine and provisions
This gem is a newer(ish) addition to the culinary scene in Kitchener and WOAH – talk about an experience! Everything that comes out of the kitchen is an ode to the season, so expect bursts of autumn flavour when you dine there this fall. We’re talking a multitude of multi-coloured fresh veg and locally-sourced animal proteins.
Driven by Chef Jon Rennie, the entire team at odd duck collaborates on the menu and wine list. This is just one element of the ethos of creativity and contribution that’s promoted at the establishment – odd duck is also one of a handful of non-tipping model restaurants in the region.

4. Pumpkin everything from Aura-La Pastries and Provisions
324 Frederick St, Kitchener
This gorgeous little spot on Frederick Street has become a bit of an institution – and for good reason. In the summer, you’ll find folks lined up out the door for their homemade ice cream and “bean to bar” chocolate.
In the fall you’ll want to high-tail it to Aura-la stat because they are the region’s go-to for everything pumpkin. We’re talking made-from-scratch pumpkin treats of all kinds – pies, scones, and even a delightful French pastry called Kouignamann (pronounced “queen ah-mahn”), known as the croissant’s denser, more caramelized cousin. On sunny days, enjoy these treats on the patio.
