Windsor’s most iconic foods have been chosen

You may remember – way back in in April 2021 – WindsorEats went on a search for Windsor, Ontario’s most iconic foods.

Responses were received from online submissions that took place throughout the month of April, 2021 to determine the foods that made Windsor distinct. In a city with so much diversity and amazing restaurants, the submissions were vast and varied.

“We wanted to know what Windsorites thought about what our city’s most iconic foods would be,” explains Adriano Ciotoli, co-owner of WindsorEats. “Everyone has an opinion on what that might be and it can involve some pretty heated discussions. We put a call out and asked the general public for their thoughts, then compiled that information to tally up the results. It’s a great way to get people talking about some of the amazing local dishes we have here that make this region so unique.”

Here are Windsor’s 9 most iconic foods in order of popularity:

9.  Sweet Corn
8.  Honey Balls
7.  Paczki
6.  Robbie’s Gourmet Sausages
5.  Lake Erie Perch
4.  Shawarma
3.  Whisky
2.  Chicken Delight
1.  Pizza

You can read more about the foods (and where to eat them!) on the WindsorEats website. Local artist Julia Hall took the top 9 submissions and created hand drawn artwork that can be purchased as printed artwork.

“The artwork was commissioned to bring those iconic foods into peoples homes,” says Ciotoli. “Julia is an exceptional artist and she brought a bit of fun and helped create images that help celebrate the iconic foods of Windsor.”
