A Delicious Day Trip to Stratford

Looking for a weekend getaway filled with culture, delicious food, and beautiful scenery? Look no further than the charming town of Stratford, Ontario.

Stratford is located by the Avon River and is famous for its top-notch theatre, tasty cuisine, and historic charm. Plus, it’s just a short drive from the tri-city area (about 40 minutes) and under 2 hours from Toronto.

What You Need to Know

This itinerary is perfect for those looking to park it and play. Park in one of the many municipal lots and from there you can walk to all four stops on this itinerary. Let’s get started!

Stop 1: Lunch at BRCH&WYN

Like any good road trip, this one starts with coffee.  Start your day off at the unique, BRCH & WYN, a charming destination for coffee aficionados and food enthusiasts seeking a one-of-a-kind café experience.

After a delicious lunch, we’ve got the perfect plan for your afternoon! It’s time to dive into the vibrant world of theatre at the renowned Stratford Festival Theatre. Afternoon matinees (especially during the week) are kind of our jam.

Take a moment to peruse the schedule in advance and secure your tickets for an unforgettable experience. Whether you choose a classic Shakespearean masterpiece or a compelling contemporary production, prepare to be spellbound by the exceptional performances and awe-inspiring stagecraft that await you.

Let the talented cast transport you to a world of unparalleled storytelling, where emotions run high and imaginations soar. Immerse yourself in the magic of the Stratford Festival Theatre and create memories that will linger in your heart long after the final bow.

Hot Tip: Theatre not your thing? You should certainly give it a chance but if not, the downtown is full of artisans and boutiques to explore. 

Stop 3: Explore the Avon River & Shakespearean Gardens

After time inside a dark theatre, we think you’ll appreciate stretching your legs in the great outdoors! Take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the river, letting the tranquil waters and charming bridges create a sense of serenity.

This time of year, you’ll enjoy wandering the meticulously maintained Shakespearean Gardens here as they come to life with brightly coloured flowers and lush greenery.

We recommend finding a peaceful spot to relax and perhaps digest before we’re onto the next stop!

Hot Tip: You can enjoy a 30-minute scenic boat tour along the Avon River. Tours start at 11 a.m. and run every half hour till 6 p.m. At The boat house.

Stop 4: Dinner at Revival House

Our final destination takes us to Revival House for a mix of historic charm and a menu of elevated but approachable food. Housed in the historic building formerly known as The Church Restaurant, you’ll dine amongst stunning stained glass windows, and amazing ceiling and more.

The menu showcases the best of Stratford’s culinary traditions with a modern twist, featuring classic favs like beef tenderloin and  seafood to handheld sammies and veggie-based options.

Hot Tip:  Reservations are highly recommended and their events alone are worth a trip!
