Is there anything more scrumptious than the smell of fresh baked breads and pastries paired with a coffee, tea or latté? Of course there is: the taste!  The Chatham-Kent Bakery Trail will get you where your taste buds need to be. The owners of these community bakeries are a great source of not only tasty treats and confections but also must-see local things to see, places to visit and stories to discover.

Start the day with a gluten free tasty treat and the smoothie of the day (especially if it’s the Peach Cobbler Smoothie) at Charlie’s Café, in Blenheim. Don’t let the healthy titles scary you away; whether it’s the Fudgy Flourless Brownies or a Gluten-free Banana Chocolate Protein Muffin, the food is fresh and flavourful, and the ethically sourced, small batch coffee is the perfect way to get you going.

When you find yourself outside of Bothwell, make sure you stop in at Park’s Blueberries & Country Store. Wander through the fields of blueberry bushes as you pick-your-own and fill your basket with one of the six different varieties available or browse the country store bakery and café. Choose from muffins, scones, bars, pies, and tarts and don’t be surprised when you find more than just blueberry flavours!

Even if you’re not in the mood for something sweet, make sure to pick up one of their many freshly baked loaves of bread to take home and enjoy.

The candy kitchen is in full swing at Pinnells Bakery in downtown Ridgetown; you can’t pick just one of the homemade chocolates! You’ll also find traditional Horehound Candy to help sooth everything from a sore throat to an upset stomach.
