Culture, cafes and comfort food in Haliburton

Fall is a great time to explore the varied cultural and historical experiences in Haliburton. In between the glory of autumn leaves and the exhilaration of winter, they have a range of cultural experiences to enrich your understanding of the Haliburton Highlands.

To get off to a good start and fuel your adventure, stop by Molly’s Bistro Bakery. From hearty, full breakfasts to coffee and baked treats that are made in house from scratch, Molly’s has you covered. Be sure to pick some of their baked goodies for a picnic lunch by the shores of the Gull.

Right next door to Molly’s, is the Minden Hills Cultural Centre where you’ll find cultural, historical and environmental displays.

Minden Hills Cultural Centre – contemporary art, historical buildings and displays, and environmental education all share the same space here.

Work your breakfast off with a stroll down the marsh boardwalk and on to the Minden Riverwalk which gives you access to the stores, cafes and restaurants of the village of Minden.

Just a short drive up the road will take you to the Minden Wildwater Preserve, a 600m section of white-water river known around the world as a destination for recreational and competitive kayakers and canoeists. Most weekends you’ll be able to marvel at the skill of paddlers as they navigate the rapids.

Battling down the Gull River!

The walk along the river is stunning in all seasons with great opportunities for photos, plein-air art or simply soaking in the sounds and sights of a flowing river.

All this exploring will get you ready for a warm dinner in a cozy dining room. Another short drive up Hwy 35 will take you to Heather Lodge or Rhubarb. Known throughout the county for the great food and dedication to locally sourced ingredients, both restaurants will provide a tasty, fulfilling end to a great day.
