Go Green for the Holidays

You may be dreaming of the white fluffy stuff this holiday season (and trust me we are too!) but when it comes to gifts, this year, we’re going green.

Here are some great, Ontario-made green gift ideas.

2023 Sustainable Holiday Gifts

Enjoy our round-up of sustainable gifts for the 2023 holiday season!

1.    Prints for Purpose

If one thing is for certain, it’s that we love a partnership and when it’s done to support a great cause? Even better. Collective Arts, Ontario Parks and artist, Gosia Komorski, partnered up this spring to create Trail Loop Honey Lager to raise money for the Balsam Lake Reforestation Project.

While the beer is now gone (what a success!) you can still purchase this beautiful print shown on the can in support of this project. We think it’d make for a wicked addition to any gallery wall.

2.    Help Topsy Rewild

Topsy Farms on Amherst Island is looking to rewild a big chunk of their farm property with native species to help plants, bees, birds and other wildlife. Why not sponsor a meter of hedgerow towards the cause? Then go visit them because they’re like, really cool.

3.    Make it B Corp or Bust

Supporting a B-Corp certified restaurant like Miijidaa in Guelph means you get to eat awesome food (score!) and support a business that is all about using business as a force for good.

4.    Bee a Good Gifter

Support your neighbourhood bees- that’s what we like to say! Ontario Honey Creations has some wild and amazing honey inspired by the terroir where the bees pollinate. Their tri-pack of honey samplers is the perfect example of taste of place. It’s the bee’s knees.

5.    Give an Experience instead of stuff

Have somebody on your list that already has it all? No worries. Check out some of our fav Ontario experiences perfect for gifting.

6.    Help give food a second life

The holidays are tough for a lot of people and food waste is no joke. Why not make a donation in the person on your list’s name this holiday season to somewhere like Second Harvest that focuses on food rescue?

7. A Sustainably-Certified VQA Wine

Sustainable gifting doesn’t have to be boring! VQA has a list of 24 sustainably certified wineries where you can pick up a bottle (or two, or three- no judgement) this holiday season. These wineries manage their water use, use alternative energy solutions and much more. Happy sipping!

8. A Winter Escape

What could be better than cozying up for a charming winter escape in rural Ontario your sweetheart? Check out the glamping pods at Long Point Eco Adventure to appreciate all things winter like the night sky, crunchy snow and so much more.

9. Net Zero Cyder

This cyder  from Duntroon Cyder House is part of the Duntroon’s goal to be carbon neutral! It is fully organic and made with a blend of heritage cider apples right from their orchards! One, two or even six of these will look quite nice under the tree.

That’s a wrap!

We hope you have a magical holiday season. For more holiday gift ideas inspired by Ontario’s unique culinary scene, check out our Holiday Gift Guide.
