Introducing the Open Source Cookbook | Ontario Culinary

Toronto just got an Open Source Cookbook – and it’s awesome.

We all miss our favourite restaurants for their atmosphere, inventive dishes and convenience, but now is the perfect time to brush up on your home cooking skills. Local Toronto chefs have collaborated to create the Open Source Cookbook, where you can follow their recipes or submit your creations!

This cookbook is meant to be an open source toolkit that everyone and anyone can access during a time of heightened need. There are recipes from chefs, line cooks, home cooks, mothers, fathers, nonnas, popo’s and everyday joes.

It is not meant to be shrouded in secrecy. It is not meant to be exclusive. It’s not meant to intimidate.

It is meant to be shared so that we can learn from each other, inspire one another and at the very least, derive joy from each other.

Foreword, Open Source Cookbook

Featuring 33 recipes and counting, including Superpoint chef Meghan Robbins’ chicken fried steak sando, Rosalinda chef Mat Ravenscroft’s vegan charred broccoli & coconut soup, and a simple sourdough by Patti Robinson of Robinson Bread – there’s already something for everyone, and they’re just getting started.

If you want to submit your own, here’s how it works:

  1. Write a recipe for your favourite dish. Be sure to include accurate measurements either in weight (grams, ounces, pounds) or by volume (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres, etc.) Write it as you would teach someone new to cooking; editing will only be for clarity and brevity.
  2. Include a photo or two. While imagery isn’t necessary, it always helps. Video is also supported!
  3. Email the submission to opensourcecookbook@gmail.com & be sure to include your recipe name in the subject.

If you decide to channel your inner chef and make some of these recipes, we’d love to see them! Share photos of your masterpiece with #OpenSourceCookbook.
