The Ultimate All-Ontario Road Trip Playlist: Country, Blues + Bluegrass

When we think road trips, we think chip trucks, farm stands, pies, markets – and playlists!

The perfect Ontario road trip deserves the perfect Ontario playlist. As part of the Great Taste of Ontario, we’ve curated this delicious list of tracks with the help of Matt Morgan of Siegel Entertainment Ltd. for those who love to keep it a little bit country while exploring Ontario’s most delectable destinations.

Think of it as a mixtape from us to you, creating the perfect backdrop to your travels. These artists were inspired by Ontario’s beauty, the open road, and spontaneous road trips with great company. We hope they inspire you and yours to hit the open road in search of your next great taste!

Ontario’s music scene is as diverse as its people – but this playlist is all about our country, blues and bluegrass notes. Here’s a little more info about some of the Ontario artists we featured.

Matt’s Pick:

Julian Taylor

Hometown: Toronto

Genre: Varied

“Julian has been a staple of the Toronto and Ontario scene for a long while with the Julian Taylor Band. This new solo album is a stark change from his other material. More roots and country, this album has been charting across Canada, UK, and Australia.”

Matt’s Pick:

Jessica Mitchell

Hometown: London

Genre: Country

All of Jessica’s songs tell a story and this heartbreak country ballad is no different. Pour a glass of Ontario whiskey (when you’re done driving for the day, of course) and turn the volume up!

Sue Foley

Hometown: Ottawa

Genre: Blues

Sue is an award-winning blues guitarist and singer with 15 albums under her belt, and another, Pinky Blues, coming this October. As one of the slower tracks on this playlist, it’s perfect for relaxing around the fire or cruising down a country road to the melodic guitar solos.

The Abrams

Hometown: Kingston

Genre: Country

Sibling duo John and James Abrams are fourth-generation musicians hailing from Kingston, Ontario. Combining some country and bluegrass flavours (some call it “newgrass”) The Abrams catchy guitar riffs and plucky banjo will have you singing along by the end of the song. This single from their second studio album, Reminder, is all about spontaneity – sounds good to us!

River City Junction

Hometown: Ottawa

Genre: Blues Rock

Leaning heavily on their roots, River City Junction’s sound is influenced by classic rock, but with their own modern twist. This song is a celebration of spring nights and jamming with friends.
