Shop Like a Local, Wherever you are this season

It’s the most wonderful time of year to support small businesses – and that’s exactly what tourism organizations across the province are doing right now. At a time when travelling to small towns is not on the table for all, they’re putting together online shopping platforms and digital ‘main streets’ to give people access to the artisans, creators and makers in their communities.

Here’s a few great examples to get you started in your gift giving research – but be sure to check with your local destination marketing organization to see what they’re up to!

WINDSOR ESSEX

In Ontario’s southern most community – Windsor Essex – there is lots to discover & do to stay festive! Use their holiday guide all the way through New Years Eve to find ways to celebrate safely, stay busy & have fun. They’ve got a gift guide and a list of safe outdoor events to keep it festive with your household if you live in the region. Our pick of their list? A taste of Essex Wine Country! The ‘Making Spirits Bright‘ mixed box for the VQA wine is the perfect gift for the local wine lover in your life.

OXFORD COUNTY

Typically, at this time of year, Oxford is a winter wonderland of events, attractions and quaint shops to bring you holiday cheer. This year, they’ve put together a list of unexpected gifts made in the region. Think handmade baseball bats (!), guitars, chocolates and of course – charcuterie boards! Many businesses in the region are running ‘for your bubble experiences‘ for you and your household. Booking these now is a way to support the business and guarantee a spot in 2021.

GREY COUNTY

The team at Visit Grey have put together their picks for the best of the region. It includes must-haves that make for great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts or for someone special who loves all things local. Our pick from their list? An oldie but a goodie. The Come To Our Table: South Georgian Bay Community Cookbook. Still very relevant and very delicious!
