Taste Real invites residents and visitors to go on a local food adventure and explore Guelph and Wellington County’s eight vibrant farmers’ markets this summer. Starting this week, Farmers’ Market Trail Passports will be available at all local markets or can be requested directly from the Taste Real office.
All local farmers’ markets are now operating for the season. The Aberfoyle, Elora, Guelph, Minto, and Wellington North markets are open on Saturdays, the Rockwood market on Wednesdays, and the Erin market on Fridays. Wellington’s newest market, the Mapleton Farmers’ Market operates on the third Wednesday of every month during its first season.
“Each market showcases the unique tastes and flavours of our communities and offers visitors a gateway to explore our beautiful towns and rural destinations”, says George Bridge Chair of Wellington County’s Economic Development Committee. “Farmers’ markets are a great way to support our local economy and benefits go beyond purchases made from market vendors. People come for the market and stay to explore, and support local businesses along the way.”
Passport holders can collect stickers each time they visit a different local farmers’ market and submit a photo of their passport once they have collected three stickers for a chance to win one of seven market prize packs.
In addition, market goers are encouraged to share photos of their market visits or purchases on social media with the hashtag #tasterealmarkets to enter the farmers’ market photo contest for another opportunity to win.
Another way to join the farmers’ market trail is by ordering curated boxes delivered to homes across Wellington County and Guelph. Market boxes can be ordered on the Taste Real website and feature a different local market every two weeks.
