Meet chef Tyler Cunningham of Mudtown Station

Everyone knows that the best parties always end in the kitchen. With our series, Kitchen Party, we’re sitting down with Feast On Chefs, brewers and restaurateurs to get to know them, and the local foods that inspire them, a little better.

What’s your favourite seasonal ingredient?

My Favourite Seasonal ingredient is hard to identify. There are so many to choose from but I will go with strawberries. There are few things more satisfying than the first taste of the rich sweetness that a strawberry yields from the early summer sun.

What’s your drink of choice?

It will Have to be Mudtown’s Interchange IPA

Most underrated ingredient?

Eggs! Local Farm Eggs. So much of the population under appreciates the superior quality and flavour  that a fresh hen egg has over a standard commodity egg producer.

Favourite restaurant?

Locally, Casero Kitchen Table. They have a Great Vibe. Professional Service and Tasty Foods!  Otherwise it would be Tofu Village on Bloor. I don’t care much for extravagance. Its all about flavour and that soon tofu soup never disappoints.

What’s the best part of working with Ontario food and drink?

Living in a town that somehow has disconnected in some ways with the relationship between the farmers and the producers in our own backyard and surrounding areas, nothing makes me happier than to aid in that re-connection. When I have guests excited upon realizing the endless options they have locally. . . it’s beyond worth it to source Good. Quality. Food. Not to mention, aiding our local small businesses in creating a viable and sustainable livings, so they can live where they want and how they wish, in good conscience, is very important to me.

Why is Feast On important to you and your restaurant?

It is important to have a strong recognizable brand that we’re associated with. It helps represent our home in the most positive way possible. We Believe that the work Feast On at the Culinary Tourism Alliance is doing has been very helpful in directing guests to a variety of options that will benefit their health and community.

Fill in the blank:”If I entered a competitive eating contest, I’d definitely win if the item was ___________.”

Corn on the cob . . . I guess.

What does your ‘Perfect Weekend’ in Owen Sound look like?

In my wood shop with the door open, an open Mudtown Growler, listening to great music and the sound of my children playing in the yard.
