There’s a new al fresco dining experience in Peterborough & the Kawarthas

Summer picnics are glorious but there’s something special about eating outdoors in the fall. If you love fall picnics as much as we do, you need to check out Fall for PTBO Picnic: a picnic experience for four that will have you sampling a delightful array of tried-and-true local favourites while discovering the best of what Peterborough & the Kawarthas has to offer this fall.

What to expect

Perfect for a fall drive, this self-guided tour will have you exploring foodie-hot spots in the City and County of Peterborough, while creating your very own picnic feast.

Begin your adventure by picking up your picnic backpack, then picking up your picnic goodies from five local stops which include bakeries, wineries, and restaurants, before unpacking your picnic at a scenic spot. The backpack comes complete with a map, suggested route, all of your essential picnic items, and gift cards to five local stops: Hard Winter Bread Company, (for fresh sourdough bread and delicious cookies), Millbrook Mercantile (for deli meats, cheeses, and the best bacon jam in town!), Pastry Peddler (for puffy Passion Flakies), Doo Doo’s Bakery (for the Best. Butter Tarts. Period.) and Rolling Grape Vineyard (for the perfect wine to pair with your picnic food. They also have sangria to go!).

You can lay out your picnic at one of the two recommended picnic areas — Rolling Grape Vineyard (in the special section for #FallForPtbo picnic guests) or among the stunning Shona stone sculptures at the five-acre ZimArt’s Rice Lake Gallery – and enjoy!
