In the heart of the city, Evergreen Brickworks Farmers’ Market brings rural goodness to the middle of downtown Toronto with the season’s freshest produce, Ontario-made cheese, VQA wines and so much more.
So what does eating your way through this market look like? Well, read on!
A Saturday at the Market
Located on Bayview Ave. in downtown Toronto, this market runs every Saturday and brings farmers from across the province to a central hub to sell their goods. This is Toronto’s largest market and well worth the trip.
Supporting over 60 local farmers, producers and more, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
Let’s Talk Produce
Is there anything better than the fresh burst of colour that changes with every season at your local farmers’ market? YES. Eating all that fresh, local produce, of course!
At Evergreen Brickworks, Saturdays see farmers bringing in that rainbow of goodness each week. You’ll find everything from the year’s first superstars, asparagus and rhubarb, in the spring to the latest fall squash, apples and more at the end of the season.
You can support some pretty cool spots too! Pop by the booths for the Youth Grown Collective out of the GTA or the Black Vegans of Toronto/Atiba Farm, for example, grab mushrooms from Fresh and Tasty Mushrooms or grab a beautiful variety of products from Lady Cone Hopyard.
With products grown from Grey County down to Norfolk County in the south, you’re sure to get an amazing selection of Ontario-grown goodness from across the province.
Wineries, Vineyards and Cideries: Sip Sip Hooray!
Looking for a little vino? How about some cider? Add a little pep to your Saturday when you check out some of the fantastic wine and cider available.
Cider lovers will enjoy checking out refreshing ciders from Spy Cider House & Distillery out of Clarksburg as well as Daughters Cider from Prince Edward County.
Those who partake in a few glasses of vino with dinner will be happy to find several VQA Wineries and Vineyards on-site including Flat Rock Cellars, 80x Wine Company and Hinterland Wine Company to name just a few.
Just can’t get enough? Head over to the Sipping Container which is not only open during the Saturday Farmers’ Market but also during the Sunday Artisan & Vintage Market and Summer Wednesdays.
There you’ll find everything from more craft cider to locally roasted coffee, Ontario craft brewers like Left Field Brewery and Blood Brothers and so much more!
Meat + Fish
Of course, all those bevvies deserve to be paired with a delicious meal!
What we love most about any farmers’ market is the ability to chat with the person producing your food. Have a chat with a farmer when sourcing the protein for your next meal. We think you’ll be glad you did.
From our friends at Secret Lands Farm who sell their own lamb as well as out-of-this-world cheeses and farm-fresh eggs to Fisherfolk out of the GTA and Murray’s Farm out of Guelph Wellington, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the variety.
Other Can’t-Miss Eats
Of course, on top of all those delicious staples, you’ll also find crave-able food prepped and ready. Think baked goods, loaves of bread, cheese from Monforte Dairy and Secret Lands, honey, dumplings and so much more. Why not make a morning of it and finish it all off with a little lunch?
Can’t Get Enough of Brickworks
We get it! Evergreen Brickworks is pretty epic. If you thought this market was awesome, be sure to also check out the Evergreen Garden Market to pick up some native plants and other General Store-type goods as well as the Vintage & Artisan Market on Sundays.
