Eat Your Way Around the World From Home

Originally published by York Durham Headwaters

Things are weird in Ontario right now. At a time when we would be sitting on patios, farm-stand hoping and perusing our local markets for the first Ontario grown foods, we’re instead at home watching from a distance or ordering online.

Many restaurateurs in York, Durham, Headwaters aren’t content to let the social aspects of food and dining disappear during this mess though. They’ve come together to create unique initiatives and experiences to help transport people and bring them closer – albeit, six feet apart.

At Fishbone Bistro in Aurora, you can spend date night in Portugal by picking up their Isolation Package. It comes with 2 salads, Seafood Linguine and Portuguese Custard Tarts.

If a little wood-fired Italian is more up your alley, the folks at Bluebird Café & Grille in Orangeville are doing pre-order feasts. You can travel from Napoli to Florence to Venice to Milan on their pizza menu alone!

Located in the heart of downtown Newmarket, Hungry Brew Hops Public House & Eatery is known for good beer and great pub food. Right now though, they’re slinging noodles of all shapes and sizes with their sister restaurant HopBop Noodle Shop. Pick up a bowl or two and get transported South East Asia with every slurp.

Feeling more like Mexican? The folks at Made is Mexico have put together meal kits you can make at home for everything from their delicious tacos to spicy margaritas.  If you don’t feel like cooking, they also have family-style meals to-go.

If you’re looking to add a little Southern flare to your dinner, why not order some buttermilk fried chicken, hush puppies and slaw from the folks at Butchie’s – it’s #damntastyfood and makes for a great backyard picnic.

Locavores can head for Urban Pantry in Uxbridge. This Feast On® Certified spot is slinging burgers, extra crispy fries, glorious breakfasts and family-sized pasta bakes featuring ingredients grown in the region.

And if all you want to do is curl up on the couch with some popcorn or fresh baked cookies, there’s a kit for that too. The Rosemont General Store is doing curbside pick-up of various at-home kits including a very appealing “Cookie Kit” that includes all their famous ingredients to make chocolate chip cookies at home.

Thanks to delivery options and curbside pick-up, there’s never been a better time to explore (and support!) restaurants in your neighbourhood – from the comfort of your own home!
