Delicious Eats for Your Camping Trip to Bon Echo Provincial Park

Looking for your next great food adventure? We recently spent the day in Lennox & Addington before settling in for the evening at Bon Echo. Along the way, we checked out a couple of local spots in this charming area and stocked up for trip.

From cozy diners to scenic picnics at Bon Echo Provincial Park, we found everything we needed for an unforgettable trip filled with great eats and stunning views. Whether you’re passing through or planning a weekend camping trip, Addington Highlands is ready to impress!

Here’s a recap of our day and a guide to some must-visit places along the way.

Addison’s Restaurant

Where: 11893 Highway 41, Northbrook (View Map)

We kicked things off at Addison’s Restaurant in Northbrook, a quick spot to recharge. They offer classic comfort food, like their poutine, sandwiches, and hearty soups! After a long drive to the area, this was a great spot to refuel in a casual environment. Owner, Melissa Evans, purchased the restaurant in 2009 and named it after her son, Addison. That love shines through in every comforting bite.

We couldn’t resist ordering a bit of everything—poutine, fish and chips, and their famous pot roast dip sandwich. The poutine was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of gooey cheese and rich gravy, while the pot roast dip was melt-in-your-mouth good. A definite spot to cozy up on a chillier day, these hearty dishes will certainly hit the spot.

Now that you’re all fuelled up (take your time, we have plenty), it’s time to stock up for that camping trip! Next stop: Finnegan’s General Store.

Finnegan’s General Store

Where: 14222 Highway 41, Cloyne (View Map)

Next, we headed over to Finnegan’s General Store in Cloyne. Just ten minutes away, this place has it all. Whether you need a quick snack, some locally made art, or even ice cream to cool off, they’ve got you covered.

Finnegan’s is more than just a general store; it’s a community hub where visitors and locals alike can find a little bit of everything. Think homemade tarts and cookies to giant scoops of ice cream (we think you deserve two) and groceries for your trip. This is a great place to stock up on things like condiments, bread, hot dogs and even dew worms for any fishing you might be thinking of enjoying.

Stephanie, the owner, was there to greet us with a smile and gave us the lowdown on the shop’s history. A part of the history for over 100 years, it truly is a sopt to support local: think local pottery, lotions and more in addition to those aforementioned treats and eats.

We explored the aisles filled with unique local goods and even stopped by the ice cream counter for a treat. If you’re on your way to Bon Echo Provincial Park or just passing through, make sure to drop by Finnegan’s for everything from groceries to gifts.

Don’t feel like cooking once you get to the park? Located inside Finnegan’s is a pizza parlour (Stephanie’s Good Pizza) where you can order it hot and fresh from the oven. We highly recommend calling in advance to order yours and taking it to the campsite with you or the Finnegan’s team has even been known to deliver!

Milligan Meats

Where: 14312 Highway 41, Cloyne (View Map)

No road trip is complete without a proper picnic, and Milligan Meats was our go-to spot for all the essentials for our camping adventure. Just a short, six minute walk from Finnegan’s,  this family-run butcher shop and deli is known for its top-quality meats and local products.

Of course, we had to indulge! We grabbed some sandwiches, fresh deli meats, and a few extra goodies to enjoy later at Bon Echo. The sandwiches were perfect at the end of a long day when all we felt like actually cooking were a couple of s’mores. Paired up with some muffins, pepperettes and pasta salad? Um, talk about picnic heaven.

Milligan Meats has a fantastic selection, perfect for campers and foodies alike. Whether you’re prepping for a BBQ or just want some fresh snacks for the road, this is a must-visit stop when you’re in the area. They offer the freshest cuts and some great produce options as well (both Ontario-grown and some other staples like bananas and oranges.

#4 Bon Echo Provincial Park

Where: 16151 Highway 41, Cloyne (View Map)

With our picnic supplies in hand, we made our way to the final stop of the day—Bon Echo Provincial Park. Known for its breathtaking views of Mazinaw Rock, this park is a nature lover’s dream. We set up at one of the park’s spacious campsites, each equipped with a fire pit and picnic table, making it the perfect spot for dinner.

The park offers a wide range of camp sites including car and trailer camping, pop up camping, radio-free sites and back country sites so no matter how experienced (or inexperienced) you are, there’s a site for you!

After enjoying our sandwiches from Milligan Meats, we headed down to the beach for a closer look at Mazinaw Rock. Towering over Mazinaw Lake, this impressive natural wonder is home to ancient Indigenous pictographs, adding a historical and cultural touch to the experience. Whether you’re hiking, paddling, or simply soaking up the views, Bon Echo offers something for everyone.

From hearty meals at Addison’s to the stunning beauty of Bon Echo, our day in Addington Highlands was a true culinary adventure. We loved exploring the local gems that make this area so special, and we can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to experience the best of Ontario’s local food and natural beauty.

So, what are you waiting for? Plan your camping trip to Addington Highlands, and make sure to visit these amazing spots along the way. You won’t be disappointed!
