Meet Rebecca Landman of Landman’s Garden + Bakery

Everyone knows that the best parties always end in the kitchen. With our series Kitchen Party, we’re sitting down with Feast ON Chefs to get to know them, and the local foods that inspire them, a little better.

What’s your favourite seasonal ingredient?

Butternut squash in the fall and fresh green beans in the summer.

What’s your drink of choice?

Delicious Ontario Riesling!

Most underrated ingredient?

Pork lard.

Favourite restaurant?

Too many to choose just one!

Off-duty, what are you most likely to be cooking at home?

Shepherd’s pie or slow roasted pork roast.

What’s the best part of working with Ontario food and drink?

In Ontario, we are very fortunate to have a great selection of food and drinks. It constantly amazes me how many different ingredients we are able to cook with in the kitchen that are from our very own backyard.

What are you most looking forward to doing in 2016?

I am looking forward to hosting some amazing artists, chefs and speakers to add to our farm to table dinners.

If I entered a competitive eating contest, I’d definitely win if the item was….

Shepherd’s pie.

Favourite road trip in Ontario?

My favourite place in Ontario to take a road trip to is the Niagara region and the Headwaters region.

 What we’re dying to try?

Another event in the Blackhouse! Rebecca has one of the coolest backdrops for dinner we’ve ever experienced – a dry-stone structure covered with a thick thatch of grass. Something straight out of Middle Earth!  Before sitting down to dinner, Rebecca’s lucky guests get a guided tour of her farm and stroll through her vegetable gardens.
