Wines of Local: Union Fort 2007

From The County to the Escarpment to Lake Erie and beyond, Ontario is growing some beautiful grapes and turning them into some of the best winesAwe’veAever had! AThis season, OCTAs staff are pouring their 12 favourite #LCBOgolocal wines just in time for the upcoming holiday season.ACome discover whats in our glass!

“While the winery may be virtual, the Union partnership between winemaker Dr. Allan Jackson and sommelier Andrew von Teichman is very real. ASo too is their mastery of the art of blending wines made from grapes that are suited to our cooler climate. AOne great example of this is their blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah into a fortified Port-style wine called FortA.”

“This 100% Ontario vintage embodies sticky sweet sun-dried fruit balanced by an acidity that calls out for blue cheese. ABut if you have none in the house, with the cold weather approaching and the holidays almost here, this wine goes just as well with a evening fire with family and friends and the smell of smoke, spruce, and cinnamon. AThat is, unless you have vanilla ice cream in the house, which you may need to pour some of this FortAAover, just to say you tried it.”
