Toronto Welcomes The Urban Agriculture Summit

The Urban Agriculture Summit is in full swing, having finished off its first day with their Welcome Address and Opening Ceremony. This year’s programming draws on local and international expertise and practical experience in order to engage diverse communities and provide opportunities for cross-fertilization across sectors. Whether you are involved in community based initiatives, or are in the business of city building, you can learn new tools to advance urban agriculture in your communities. The day’s concurrent session will kick-off with a keynote from Will Allen, founder and CEO of Growing Power Inc.  Will is recognized at the preeminent practitioner of urban agriculture in America and throughout the world.  In 2010 he was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 World’s Most Influential People with a great photo to go along with the article – let’s just say Will is serious about urban farming. Between today’s Trade Show and the concurrent session tackling topics from hobby farms to roof top food production, it’s sure to be a busy and informative day for delegates! Today ends with the much anticipated Toronto City Hall Green Roof Tour and GrowTO Urban Agriculture Action Plan Launch Reception at City Hall.
