Taste The Bounty of The County

September means the start of harvest festival season as folks across the province rush to take advantage of the last of that late summer sun.  What better way to enjoy the bounty of Ontario?

With a glass of County wine in hand, at TASTE! Community Grown, you can sip and nibble your way through an annual showcase of the best that Prince Edward County offers in food, farm products, restaurants, wineries, and craft breweries.

New this year, the areas diverse wineries will be selling their VQA wines at the farmers’ market!

The $30 Admission includes 10 tasting tickets and admission into some pretty cool afternoon sessions.

You can learn how to start your own farm based brewery with the MacKinnon Brothers — these guys are growing their own hops and barley and redefining how was think about local craft beer.

Laura Borutski from The Hubb at Angelines and Nicole Williams from the Agrarian Speakeasy are hosting a seminar on beer and wine cocktails, using unique local County ingredients from Pyramid Farm & Ferments, Barley Days Brewery, 66 Gilead and County wines.

You can also hear from Chef Neil Dowson and Henry Willis of Humble Bread on identifying edible flora and fungi.  Follow it up with “County Chopped” where chefs receive a special basket of local County ingredients and then have 30 minutes to create a dish using all the items in the basket. Top Prince Edward County Chefs Elliot Reynolds of The Hubb at Angelines and Scott Kapitan of East and Main will challenge recent Chopped Canada winner Chef Neil Dowson of the Agrarian Speakeasy.  You might even get a chance to help pick the winner!

This year, Taste Community Grown is offering a unique opportunity for a lucky member of the public to join judges. The winning ?judge will be randomly selected from the Events advance ticket purchasers who successfully answer the question, ?Why I Want to be a Judge for this years County Chopped.

Tickets for Taste Community Grown are $30.00 and include 10 Tasting Tickets.  TASTE! Community Grown, Prince Edward Countys premier culinary event, will take place Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Crystal Palace in Picton, Ontario.
