Summer In Burlington Packs A Punch

This summer, between July 21 and August 5, the ever popular Taste of Burlington dining series returns. To kick things off, the Taste of Burlington held their launch event at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre last week.

This feast for the senses returned for the second time, featuring 19 of the regions best restaurants offering up some delicious food.A� From tacos to curry to shooters of soup, the Taste of Burlington Launch Party is an event not be missed!

I was challenged, along with fellow judges Amy Taylor (The Angel Project), Jaclyn Colville (CHCH TV) and the lovely Lorraine Totter (George Brown College � Centre of Hospitality and Culinary Arts) to sample the fare from 18 of Burlington’s most creative restaurants.A� A hard job, I know.

We scored them based on taste, creativity and presentation.A� Ultimately, Chef Adam from Paradiso, his Peppered Chicken Liver & Andouille Sausage Pate with mushroom ketchup on olive oil crostini took home the title of ?Best Taste?.

Only half a point seperated the two runner-ups with honourable mentions going to Red Canoe Bistro for their Spiced Summer Vegetable Gazpacho with marinated Scallops and Queen�s Head Pub for their Locally sourced Sweet Potato and Pork Belly Phyllo Dumplings with a ginger and thyme honey drizzle.

The competition for People’s Choice was fierce as well!A� In the end it was a close race between the top three with West Plains Bistro edging out the competition with their Coffee and Ancho Braised Beef Short Ribs with a bell pepper salad with seeds and a cilantro honey oil.

Coming in a close behind was SB Prime with their Dry Ribs & Roasted corn salad with tomato avocado cotija cheese & a lime aioli and Water St. Cooker with their Summer Salad featuring fresh local ingredients picked fresh that morning at Plan B organics–a personal favorite of mine.

If the edibles on offer at the launch party are a reflection of what Burlington has to offer–Count me in!

?A Taste of Burlington? will be running again this summer fromJuly 21- August 5, 2013. This prix fixe dining program features twenty-four of Burlington�s finest restaurants presenting a three-course prix fixe dining menu at $15 or $20 for lunch and dinners at $30, $35 or $40.
