Slow Food Toronto is excited to announce that, after a very successful couple of days of SFT volunteers preserving Milam Bizjaks peaches at Palais Royal under chef Steffan Howards skillful eye in 2010, we will be working with Steffan again to have three preserving workshops in 2011. These will again be hosted and run by Steffan, either at Palais Royale or Casa Loma. Dates will be posted as they become available (were keeping the dates undecided as were doing some ?watchful waiting? to see what our good Ontario soil will offer up in abundance of taste this year). As Steffan says ?Let food decide whats to be done with it?. For each workshop there will be a limited number of volunteer spots; volunteers will not only learn preserving techniques, but will take some preserves home with them.
In conjunction with these workshops, SFT will be offering an opportunity for our community to purchase, in bulk, whatever produce the workshop is working with. As we decide what we will be preserving, we will advise our community of the quantities available and the cost. People will pre-order and pre-pay for their product and the producer/farmer will have guaranteed sales. Is this a win-win or what?!
Stay tuned! Be on SFTs email list so you know when were offering these workshops.
