Seven ways to eat clean (and local!) before the holiday gluttony kicks in

It’s coming — the late night cocktails, the endless mashed potatoes, the second (and third!) helping of roast beef. Don’t get us wrong, we love the holiday season but all that revelry can be a little much for our over-extended bellies.

So, instead of making excuses and assuming we’ll get better with some over-popularized-only-lemon-cayenne-and-guilt-water cleanse after the fact, we’re prepping by loading up on pulses, fiber and good old fashioned vegetables. Here are a few things we hope to be eating in the next month! Won’t you join us?


BALLER BREAKFAST

Let’s talk about brunch, baby. Vegan, organic brunch to be exact! We’re all for foregoing the hollandaise but keeping the flavour with Doug McNish’s vegan “eggs” benny.

AIN’T YOUR AVERAGE LUNCH

Quinoa is the new fried rice — sort of. You won’t miss the grease when you load it up with locally grown delicata squash and kale like the kitchen crew at The Quirky Carrot in Alexandria do!

SO LONG SO-SO-SALADS

Proving once and for all that you can, in fact, make friends with salad — Detour Cafe in Dundas puts the super in super foods. Their collection of tossed wonders include this falafel and cauliflower number that has us wanting seconds… and thirds!

This super-food salad has us feeling all kinds of feelings. It’s bright, crunchy and full of goodness — just like the team at Urban Pantry in Uxbridge. Stop by this season for a taste of their reimagined menu.

Three cheers for Tomasso’s Italian Grill. Though pizza may have made them famous in our books, their salads are winners too! Need proof? Look at this Warm Harvest Salad with roasted brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes. Yeah, we know — delicious!



TOTALLY HEALTHY TACOS

If eating healthy meant foregoing tacos, we never would. Lucky for us, folks like the team at Casero’s Kitchen Table are rethinking the wrap by adding delicious things like grilled tofu and fermented cabbage to the mix. It’s hella healthy AND DELICIOUS.

SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT

Who says we have to give up dessert? Not Earth + City! These macaroons look like everything we want in life and more. They come in Peppermint Cacao, Gingerbread and Eggnog varieties. Swoon!

BONUS: All four of these delicious destinations are Feast On Certified. That means that each and everytime you eat there, you can be assured that they’re working hard to put Ontario grown and raised food on your plate. We think that’s pretty darn neat.
