The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) announced 48 new Signature Experiences Collection members this week…and we’re thrilled that one of our favourite experiences in Prince Edward County made the list! The CTC awarded the partnership of Huff Estates (named one of the “Top Twenty Wineries in Canada” by Wine Access magazine in 2008) and From the Farm Cooking School with this unique and coveted distinction, making them the first attractions in Prince Edward County to receive this designation. Congratulations to Huff Estates and From the Farm Cooking School! The unique PEC experience includes visiting local farms/food producers, private cooking classes at the From the Farm Cooking School in their authentic heritage 1830s Canadian farmhouse, tasting wines at a number of local wineries, experiencing art on site at the gorgeous Oeno Gallery and overnight accommodations at the Inn at Huff Estates. If you haven’t stayed at the Inn before, you’re in for a real treat – the rooms have been specially designed to reflect a different earth, wind, fire or water decorative theme and each suite comes with a private patio overlooking the vineyard. For lunch and dinner, visitors can also enjoy a meal of locally grown and produced foods expertly prepared by Chef Michael Hoy, recently chosen by the Government of Canada to represent Savour Ontario. “Being recognized as a Signature Experience for our region is extremely rewarding for our tourism industry overall and a recognition we which look forward to promoting nationally and internationally” commented Jason Sharpe, GM of Huff Estates and Cynthia Peters, Owner of From the Farm Cooking School. “Signature Experiences Collection members include the best attractions that Canada has to offer and help show the world why our country is such an authentic and engaging place to visit”, said the Honorable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism). “This initiative is a key part of Canada’s Federal Tourism Strategy, which is based on a collaborative approach between industry and other levels of government to secure Canada’s competitive position in the global tourism market.” Details on this new Experience will be highlighted on the SEC website later this summer.
