We had the chance to explore the sweeter side of Toronto on Tasty Tours’ Kensington Market Sweets Tour last week. Running every other Sunday, this sugar filled experience is a great way to discover all the nooks and crannies in the colourful Toronto neighbourhood of Kensington Market.
Led by Audrey Ooi, the tour starts with a brief history of ‘The Market’ and focuses on the diverse and eclectic businesses in the area. Though Kensington is one of the most iconic districts in the Toronto, did you know that in November 2006, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada?
During the early twentieth century, Kensington was populated by eastern European Jewish immigrants and some Italians–though many of these early business owners have moved, their impact is still visible in landmarks like the Anshei Minsk Synagogue.
While the tour the filled with seemingly endless tidbits of history about the area, it’s the sugary confections that have people coming back for more. Here are some highlights!
The tour includes 5 ‘secret’ stops every time–and I don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’ll have to book your own sweet experience to find out more.
Did you know you can get a free tour during your birthday month? More info here.
And don’t forget, Audrey and her team also offer sinfully sweet holiday-themed gift certificates for the upcoming holiday season! For more information on Tasty Tours and the various experiences they facilitate, visit: TastyToursToronto.com
