Reif Estates named Best Canadian Wine Producer

Did you know that the International Wine and Spirits Competition named Reif Estate Winery as the Canadian Wine Producer of 2017?

Owner Klaus W. Reif could not be more pleased to see history repeat itself as the winery received the same award in 2002 alongside the Best Dessert Wine Trophy. The annual wine competition receives entries from over 80 countries worldwide and awards are considered among the highest honors.

Over and above this trophy, it should be noted that the winery also took home seven other medals, including the Gold Dessert Wine Trophy for their Reif Estate Grand Reserve Vidal Icewine.

Reif Estates is one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s founding family wineries. There’s a lot of history on the property. It was founded in 1982 by Ewald Reif and later acquired by nephew Klaus W. Reif. The farm is home to some of the oldest vinifera plantings in Canada; the vines were originally planted on the 125 acre farm in 1977. Today, just like in those first days, the east facing slopes of the property are moderated by warm air coming off the river.

These reasons, coupled with unique activations like their sensory garden where you’re invited to ponder the colours, aromas and flavours characteristically used to describe wines, make it an outstanding example of Ontario hospitality.

Congratulations to the team at Reif Estates! An honour well deserved.
