The County is prime picnic territory!

All great picnics start with everyone’s favourite handheld food: sandwiches! Stop by The Pastry House in Picton for some wholesome bread (how about their cottage loaf or sunflower rye?) to build the perfect lunch. Next stop is Fifth Town Artisan Cheese for their award-winning, locally produced dairy products using goat and sheep milk. They’re perfectly packable and brimming with flavour. Sink your teeth into their premium goat milk cheddar with bread or just on its own. For a little more sustenance, pop by the Agrarian Market in Bloomfield for their charcuterie items, terrines and maybe a jar of their local preserves to make your sandwiches really taste of The County.

Make your own or have them make it for you. Either way, The Grange is a picnic lovers paradise!

With all of that delicious local food, it’s understandable that you and your picnicking companions will have built up quite a thirst. Pick up a bottle (or two) of wine from Feast ON certified Grange of Prince Edward Vineyards. Their 2013 Sparkling Riesling as a versatile pairing to your picnic bites. If it’s an especially warm day, you may want to purchase some bottles of Barley Days Brewery’s Loyalist Lager to cool down. It’s crisp, clean and brewed right in Prince Edward County. Find yourself hosting a last-minute picnic without enough time to pick up ingredients beforehand? Simply have one of The County’s finest fill your hamper for you. Pre-order and pick up a group lunch from Picnic PEC food truck at the Rosehall Run Winery. Their healthy, tasty meals include local produce and artisanal goods. If your sweet tooth is still acting up, grab something extra like a cupcake or scone from The Perfect Lil’ Bake Shop just outside of Picton. Prince Edward County and its local fare are waiting for you – get picnicking!
