Our favorite scoops shops in Ontario, right now

If you ask us, there’s nothing better than a double scoop – piled high on a waffle cone – enjoyed in the sunshine. It’s one of those delicious, lifelong Ontario pleasures enjoyed everywhere come warm weather.

Here are our favorite Ontario ice cream shops, right now. Each one sets themselves apart by either making their own ice cream or thoughtfully sourcing from others who are committed to Ontario Dairy. They’re all a little different and definitely worth a road trip!

Belly Ice Cream

88/90 West Road, Huntsville, Ontario     bellyicecream.ca

Belly makes classic ice cream flavours with an Ontario twist. We love flavours like Canada 150 Buttertart, Muskoka Maple Mocha and Melon with Prosecco. Owner and head ice cream flavour creator Shelley was a chef — and it shows. Bonus: sprinkles are always free, as it should be!

Holy Cow’s featuring Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream

938 McNabb Street, Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario

This northern Ontario scoop shop serves up Kawartha Dairy classics, but each one is made locally with milk from Lock City Dairies in Sault Ste. Marie. Stop by and get fun flavours like ‘Wolf Paws’ piled high in regular, waffle or doughnut cones while support Northern Ontario diary farmers.

Kekou Gelato

394 Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario     kekou.ca

The team at Kekou is turning your expectation of gelato on its head. Made in house with a Asian flare, they’re scooping up flavours like soursop and milk tea (pictured above!). It’s light, airy and decadent all at once!

The team at Pom Pom just got a venue upgrade! They’ve moved up the road to a larger location in the town of Thornbury. Stop by the hut for classic treats, homemade popsicles and cones piled high with Moose Tracks!

Ed’s Real Scoop

Four Toronto locations     edsrealscoop.com

Ed’s is classic Toronto and there’s a reason it’s been so long. With over 30 flavours on offer at any given time and a neighbourhood focused service mentality, it’s got serious staying power. The delicious ice cream helps too! We love the classic Sweet Cream flavour and are still crossing out fingers for the return of ‘Pierniki’ flavour — a classic Polish treat!

Moo Shu Ice Cream & Kitchen

477 Bank St, Ottawa, Ontario     mooshuicecream.com

This small-batch shop in on Ottawa’s busy Bank Street blows us away every time we stop by. At any given time, they’ve got 5 to 6 seasonal flavours – like Bran Biscuits & Clotted Cream featuring grains from Almanac Grains – alongside their classics. We fell in love with the Guava with Pop-Rocks on our last visit and can’t wait to come back!

Hagerman Farms

13644 Loyalist Pkwy, Prince Edward, Ontario     hagerman.farms

Everyone loves Slicker’s Ice Cream in the County, and while their cool flavours combos (like Rhubarb Ginger! or Tart Green Apple!) are amazing, we’re partial to the classic soft serve stuffed ice cream sandwiches down the road at Hagermam Farms roadside stand. It helps that you can enjoy a sammie or two while chatting up the chickens and goats!

Reid’s Dairy

222 Bell Blvd., Belleville, Ontario     reidsdairy.com

Proudly locally owned and operated since 1910 – this is a Belleville LANDMARK. It’s an actual castle! They’ve got cones, sundaes, and lots of flavoured milks made from locally-farmed dairy – but locals knows it’s all about the Loonie Shake.
