Since 2009, the Ontario Culinary Tourism Awards have honoured the contributions of those who tell our province’s culinary stories through tourism development.
In the areas of leadership, events and experience, these annual awards are open to any Ontario-based organization, business, community or festival that exemplifies culinary tourism excellence.
Last year’s winners were true symbols of success in local flavour experiences.
The 2014 recipient of the leadership award was The Apple Pie Trail of Blue Mountains, Ontario.
The Trail brings together members and stakeholders in a valuable and unique networking program. They are involved with the Canadian Tourism Commission to promote their online video and app, and offer Trail Adventure Packages. These packages integrate physical outdoor activities such as snowshoeing with authentic, local culinary experiences like ice wine tasting.
In last year’s event category, The CK Table were recognized for their authentic showcase of local flavour.
Each autumn, Chatham-Kent farmers come together with chefs and food lovers to organize The CK Table. Held on a different farm each year, the event celebrates the bountiful produce of the region and the pride of the terroir. Diners are able to mingle with local growers, artisans and chefs while indulging in VQA wines and craft beers.
Savour Toronto were awarded in the experience sector for their innovation.
Since 2013, they been providing neighbourhood tours, unique social dining experiences and culinary events in the city. Their mandate is to bring people together to have enjoyable food experiences all while supporting local, independent businesses and agriculture.
