Ontario Craft Brewers, the association representing small, independent craft brewers in Ontario, has just welcomed aboard 10 new breweries.
?The craft brewing industry continues to expand and so too does our membership,? says Cam Heaps, co-founder of Steam Whistle Brewing and Chair of Ontario Craft Brewers. ?These up-and-coming Ontario craft breweries decided to join forces with industry forerunners to share knowledge, resources and work collectively to advance the interests of craft brewing in Ontario.?
The new OCB member breweries include:
5 Paddles Brewing Company, Whitby
Called 5 Paddles because all five of its founders are active in the direction of the brewery, the recipes they create and the brewing process. This brewery has been in business now for almost a year and a half and they are approaching 100 different recipes brewed thus far�and counting!
Block Three Brewing Company, St. Jacobs
What started as a monthly beer club with four members has blossomed into a community craft beer hub in lovely St. Jacobs. Block Three opened Labour Day 2013 and promises a multitude of great beers in 2014.
Cassel Brewery Co., Casselman
Located in Casselman ON east of Ottawa, Cassel is a small craft brewery founded by local resident Mario Bourgeois. Driven by a passion to offer the greatest craft beer experience possible, Cassel brews their beers in small batches to ensure freshness and quality. Most of their beers are brewed slightly off style, developing recipes using pure inspiration and creativity.
Kilannan Brewing Company, Owen Sound
Founded in 2012, Kilannan Brewing Company brings the art of brewing to Owen Sound. At Kilannan, beer is handcrafted in small batches using the highest quality ingredients. The brewery is located just outside Owen Sound in the Rockford Plaza and features a retail store where customers can sample and purchase beer.
Lake of the Woods Brewing, Kenora
Local, fresh, handcrafted beer has returned to northern Ontario after 59 years with the opening of Kenora’s first brewery on June 29th, 2013. Proud of Kenora’s brewing heritage, Lake of the Woods Brewing Company uses the same simple ingredients used by the brewers of the past… fresh, Canadian Shield water, malt, yeast and hops.
Perth Brewery, Perth
The passionate team at this family run craft brewery is bringing a rich brewing tradition back to Perth and crafting beer that the community can be proud to call their own. Proudly dedicated to brewing fresh, all natural quality beer from locally sourced ingredients with a focus on approachable taste and drinkability. From thirst quenching lagers, pilsners & ambers to delicious IPAs, stouts and fun seasonals, there is a beer for everyone.
Publican House Brewery, Peterborough
Peterborough’s own, award winning, premium craft brewery focuses on producing high quality beer, crafted with all-natural, quality ingredients. Publican House currently produces six distinct styles with two available year round: the award-winning Publican House Ale, a German Kolsch style beer, and Square Nail Pale ale, a west coast-style pale ale. Seasonal brews include High Noon, an easy and refreshing craft beer experience; Henry’s Irish Ale, a full-flavoured brown ale; O’Leerie Stout, an indulgent winter stout; and Eight or Better, a Belgian style strong ale. Publican House masters the craft of brewing with the art of flavour.
Side Launch Brewing, Collingwood
With industry stalwart Michael Hancock at the helm, Side Launch Brewing Company brews award winning craft beer that is both wonderfully complex and highly drinkable, including Side Launch Wheat, Side Launch Pale Ale and Side Launch Dark Lager.
Stouffville Brewing Company, Stouffville
Founded by two beer industry veterans, Bill Perrie (Beer writer/author, founder of TAPS magazine and Canadian Brewing Awards) and Jim Williamson (founder of Wine Access and Canadian Wine Awards), Stouffville�s newest craft brewery is making a name for its tasty Red Falcon Ale, easy-drinking, malt-focused beer brewed by Ontario brewmaster Paul Dickey.
Smithworks Brewing Company, Peterborough
This family owned and operated craft microbrewery is providing fresh, quality beer to Peterborough and the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region. Dedicated to producing high quality beer made using premium malts, hops and yeast, Smithworks is brewing traditional Continental European style beers in small batches to ensure maximum freshness and taste.
