TASTE MAKER: SHANE KOSTShane Kost owns and operates Chicago Food Planet Food Tours. In business since 2006, it’s the largest seasonal Food Tour Business in North America. The Food Tour Business has serious profit potential and low overhead while being a fun, engaging fit to any lifestyle. Fueled by millions of people across the world who choose their travel destinations based on food alone, Food Tours satisfy locals and travellers appetites for great food, authentic “local” experiences and cultural insight into a neighborhood’s history. Chicago Food Planet employs more than 20 staff members and operates Food Tours in six off-the-beaten-path Chicago neighborhoods between March and November. Shane also operates Food Tour Pros (est. 2009), which offers two-day and three-day courses focused on helping individuals learn, start, and operate their own Food Tour businesses in cities and towns across the globe. Food Tour Pros currently has helped more than 200 business owners in more than 20 countries and 85 cities worldwide! Shane started the Chicago Food Planet Food Tour in 2006 after successful start-ups including a bag apparel manufacturing business and a lighting company which he sold. Shane has traveled to over 40 countries and starting in 2009, he drove a motorcycle from Chicago, IL to Patagonia, Argentina, covering more than 20,000 miles as part of his ongoing culinary and educational efforts.
