Reporting to the Director, Economic Development and Tourism, the Manager, Tourism will be responsible for promoting Durham Region’s natural, cultural, event, heritage, sport, arts and business attractions by developing and implementing a 5 year strategy and driving ongoing initiatives and projects. The Manager, Tourism will supervise a team, working with a range of tourism sector stakeholders to create and execute initiatives that generate increased revenue for the Durham Region tourism industry, directed to leisure, sport, motor coach, tour and international tourism segments.
Salary range is $83,486- $104,357.
A university degree and 5+ years’ experience in travel & tourism marketing management is required, as well as excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills and extensive experience in tourism marketing strategy development, planning and execution for a wide range of tourist segments using print, web and social media channels. Experience in developing relationships with media, travel writers, tourism operators, trade associations and boards, restaurants, hotels, colleges and universities, international motor coach tour operators and all levels of government is necessary, as well as solid business management skills in project management, budgeting, report writing, research, writing press releases, organizing conference exhibits, public speaking and staff management.
