A Toast To The Strong Stuff!

Whether you’re mass making punch, hand shaking custom cocktails or sipping them neat — Ontario spirits are quickly becoming a coolest way to celebrate the holidays.

This season, we’re toasting to food and friendship with some new small batch spirits. Explore you’re local liquor store to find them — or better yet, plan a road trip!

DSC01169The New Kid On The Block:
Junction 56 Distillery

Stratford just got it’s very first distillery! Junction 56 makes moonshine, gin and vodka in town at 45 Cambria Street. They offer tours of the distillery on Saturdays, but you can pop their bottle shop and stock up Tuesdays to Saturdays until about 5pm.

leatherbackThe Odd Ball Of The Bunch:
Leatherback Rum

With our distinct lack of sugar cane growers, it may seem odd to have a rum distiller in Ontario, let alone in Ottawa. North of 7 Distillery is fermenting 100% molasses based rum in our nation’s capital — and it’s delicious!

stillwatersThe Best Whisky:
Stalk & Barrel Single Malt Whiskey

The Wall Street Journal called it a “Ground breaking single malt” when Still Waters Distillery first released their award winning whiskey made from 100% Canadian two-row malted barley. We couldn’t say it better, so we’ll leave it at that!

dryginThe Most Glorious Of Gins:
Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers

This is a gin built for dry martinis. Locally grown rye and fresh botanicals make this distinctly Dillon’s — but cleaner and bolder then the Unfiltered 22. A lucky few Sipping Society Members have it — but look for a wide release soon!

whiskeybarrelThe Ultimate Gift:
Custom Blend Whisky Barrel Aging Kit

Have you ever wanted to create your own whisky–without having to buy your own distillery? Look no further than Toronto Distillery Company’s Custom Blend Whisky Barrel Aging Kit! It takes about 2 to 4 months to age and flavour your chosen spirit.

absintheThe Real Deal:
Authentic Absinthe

We remember when Geoff started talking about planting wormwood and making Absinthe at the Niagara distillery. When he finally did it, it sold out so quickly people took to social media crying! Now on batch 2, it’s the perfect gift for the old souls in your life.

Distilling is a rapidly growing trend in Ontario. We can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon! Keep abreast of all the deliciousness by following the Ontario Craft Distillers Association.
