Harvest Noir calls itself “a 21st-century harvest ball extravaganza” — and with dance parties, market mobs and a dress code to rival the most eclectic red carpets — it deserves the title. Following in the footsteps of cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Berlin, New York City and Montréal, Ottawa has its own chic picnic. The Ottawa Citizen called this annual affair “the defining moment in Ottawa’s social scene. A game-changer.” Every year, the pop-up picnic and dance party celebrates local farms and food in the Ottawa/Gatineau region by storming a secret location with local fare, fun and live spun tunes. Groups of friends of all ages dress in all black — creativity encouraged — and gather en masse at a secret urban location for the picnic of a lifetime. With a participatory fashion show, 3 dance floors, assorted flash mobs, and a strong social mission, Harvest Noir is a feast for all the senses. While the Harvest Noir organizers leave the cooking to you, they do encourage all party go-ers to prepare locally sourced feasts. They’re not just saying you should either — they’re showing you how. Since many people aren’t familiar with the benefits of local food and don’t know where to get it, the Harvest Noir organizers have pulled together this nifty little introduction in partnership with Savour Ottawa. They even provide recipes for the less creative picnic-er among us! So how does it work? It’s kind of a party within a party. You can purchase a ‘table captain’ ticket and curate your own extravaganza, or join a table of strangers. You bring your own food — they provide the tables, chairs, music and VQA wine at $5 a glass. The whole thing ends on the dance floor — with a sparkler party! Lighting the Ottawa skyline with 1,000+ fiery sparklers, set to music, an extraordinary visual spectacle that can only truly be experienced in person – leaving jealous passers-by looking on in wonder. It all happens Saturday, September 27th at 4:00 pm. Ticket are $59.00 — with the first 100 going for %25 off. Get ‘em while you can!
