Haldimand County: Adrenaline Seekers Wanted

“Adrenaline Junkie” is a phrase that’s used to describe people who enjoy intense and thrilling activities that generate an adrenaline rush. There’s no single test to determine whether you’re a thrill-seeker – but in Haldimand County, there are a couple of ways you can try and find out.

At Toronto Motorsports Park, in Cayuga, you and your social bubble can get behind the wheel of your exotic dream car or late-model American muscle car of your choice, in a safe and controlled environment. The Exotic Dream Car Experience has guests participate in a track program designed and run by former professional race car driver and track owner Uli Bieri and ends with laps on a 1.8 km closed road racing circuit. Between registration, in-class briefing, two track discovery laps, and your drive time, you can expect to be at the track for approximately 2 ½ hours.

Or if formula racing is more your style put yourself behind the wheel of a real F-2000 racing vehicle. This program gives you the opportunity to drive one of the tracks single-seated, open-wheeled formula racing cars on their challenging road course. You will learn the principles of choosing the fastest line through a corner, braking and downshifting techniques, how to correct a potential spinout and high-speed car control. Anyone with a driver’s license can register for either experience! (Your driver’s license does not need to be from Ontario, but must still be valid at the time of the drive.)

After a day at the track stop in for some craft brews, at Haldimand County’s only craft brewery, Concession Road Brewing Company in Jarvis, owned by husband and wife team Jeff & Shannon Bunton. They make beers they like to drink and know you will too. Concession Road Brewing, puts their focus on providing a space for family & friends to gather while enjoying a beer or two. Housed in an 1800 square foot 4 bay garage, that was once Jarvis’ Firehall, they are a small craft brewery with a whole lot of passion for their craft. With a wide variety of beers, some are more seasonal while others are staples. Stop by the Beer Garden and try something new, you might just be surprised by what you enjoy when you are open to trying something new. You can always check out their Facebook or Instagram stories to see a weekend forecast of what’s on tap.

Now that you have worked up an appetite, your last stop of the day will take you to the Fisherville Hotel & Tavern. Built as a hotel for travelling salesmen in 1853, Fisherville Hotel & Tavern remains a destination for tourists and travellers alike. Explore their craft beer selection and honest food, and stay overnight to experience history in a modern space during your country getaway.

Finish your trip with a round of golf at Monthill Golf and Country Club. If the weather’s an obstacle try a round on a world-class simulator, only the smell of grass is missing. Play on over 100 of the top-ranked courses in the world or hone your skills on the practice range of these state-of-the-art golf simulators. You will see why you should be playing and practicing all year long!
