Tucked away in the hills of Bethany, ON is a food and nature lover’s oasis.
The vision for the picturesque South Pond Farms was years in the making. In 2010, Vermont-raised Danielle French and her four daughters had recently moved to Bethany from Toronto. Wanting her children to have the simple, grassroots upbringing that she had in her home state, Danielle realized how important country living was for her family.
Inspired by her grandparents’ sustainable farm in Michigan, Danielle sought to recreate a rural lifestyle that revolved around local food and farming. Her business first started with delivering seasonal weekend meal baskets to friends called “Farm Flavours”.
After restoring the heritage barn (with an enviable bar!) and revamping the South Pond property, the farm grew into what it is today. As a unique Ontario venue with breathtaking views, the estate now hosts weddings, corporate events, farm-to-table meals, workshops and other special events year-round.
If the rolling hills and pastoral charm of the property haven’t convinced you yet, come for the wholesome, seasonal food. On the last Thursday of every month until October, the farm is hosting a Supper Club Series featuring tastes of the Greek Islands, Provence, the Amalfi Coast and more — all using local grown ingredients prepared under the care of a rotating chef.
Using produce grown on the property and ingredients from neighbouring farms, South Pond prepares food with creativity and respect. These partners include Cross Creek Farms, Lavender Family Maple Syrup, Lynwood Acres Trout, Mariposa Dairy, Nesbitt’s Meat Market and Lunar Rhythm Gardens. The farm also boasts its own line of spices and infusions as well as herbs grown just steps away from where they are served!
If you like to get your hands dirty, sign up for one of South Pond’s upcoming educational workshops such as silk scarf dyeing, “Honey Beelicious” tour and tasting or stone oven pizza making. Or, quench that thirst with guided spirit tastings in their silo bar.
But wait – there’s still more! If you’re on the artsy side, be sure to drop by for their Art in the Fields event, June 28 – July 2. This five day event includes a complimentary welcome reception, art workshops with local artists and a closing feast featuring “canvas worthy cuisine”.
