With foraging season fast approaching and a new found zest for life arriving on the coat tails of spring, we’re excited to discover that there’s a wild food festival coming to Toronto this year!
The Wild Things Festival promises to be a celebration of wild-fermented beer, wine and cider. Organizers invite you to sip low-intervention wines, funky brews and hazy ciders made with indigenous or wild yeasts at Propeller Coffee Co.
The event is the brain child of three fearless, female beer aficionado’s: Crystal Luxmore, Tara Luxmore and Erica Campbell.
So what’s so special about wild fermented beverages you ask? Well first, they’re delicious — but they’re also unpredictable and unique. Typically only available in small batches, things that are wild fermented are a product of their specific environment and a certain moment in time. This lack of full control can be a beautiful thing!
So far, confirmed on the local front for this wild festival, are the folks from The Exchange Brewery (who will be pouring an elderflower saison made with brett and wild honey), a Perry from the folks at Revel Cider and the folks from False Ox, a new Toronto-based shrub maker. Keep an eye on their Instagram account for more line-up announcements!
