Flaky or Crumbly? Runny or Set? Nuts or not? This province is crazy for butter tarts!
The butter tart–a type of small pastry filled with a runny, sugary filling–is considered one of Canada’s quintessential desserts.A It’s no wonder then that more and more destinations are featuring this ooey-gooey creation as a true taste of place.
With nearly 30 participating bakeries, the Kawarthas Butter Tart Tour is sure to have a tart for everyone’s tastes.
The Butter Tart Tour kicks off with a tasting competition at the Flavour Festival, happening on Sunday April 28th at the Morrow Building in Peterborough (more information here). A panel of judges will be selecting the best tarts in a number of different categories.
AIdentified by the official Butter Tart seal, visit participating bakeries throughout The City of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough & the Kawarthas and Northumberland County.
