Guelph’s craft distillery Dixon’s Distilled Spirits is making a splash with it’s award-winning gins.
Dixon’s Wicked Citrus Gin was recently named Best Canadian Gin in the Contemporary category for the second straight year at the 2018 World Gin Awards. Dixon’s Wicked Licorice Gin, coming to the LCBO this fall, was named Best Canadian Gin in the Old Tom category.
The World Drinks Awards are global awards celebrating all manor of spirits, cider and beer. Presented by TheDrinksReport.com, the World Drinks Awards select, reward and promote drinks to consumers and trade across the globe.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in just five years of being in business,” said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon. “One thing we realized early on is that we’re very good gin makers, so we’ve focused a lot of our efforts on developing premium products like Wicked Citrus Gin and Gin Fusion Sparkling Lemon Cocktail, which we introduced in the spring.”
More and more people are looking for quality, locally crafted spirits. Shifting tastes are fueling the expansion of the craft distilling sector in the United States – and Canada is expected to follow suit.
“We’re seeing the potential for similar growth here in Canada,” said Dixon. “We use only the best Ontario-grown ingredients, and we distill our gin 18 times, compared to the industry average of three to five times. The result is wicked smooth with a hint of citrus and peppery spice that’s perfect for a refreshing gin and tonic, or as a base in your favourite cocktail.”
Dixon’s is part of a growing number of craft distillers in Ontario. The Ontario Craft Distillers Association (OCDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the success of the Ontario’s craft distilleries, is now up to 19 members representing all kinds of craft spirits – including gin.
Cheers to that!
