For the past few years, Ontario craft ciders have been giving our beers, wines, and spirits a run for their money, and now they have the festival to prove it! Cider Week 2014, brought to life by The Ontario Craft Cider Association, will take place in Toronto from June 2nd7th 2014.
There will be over 40 different ciders to sip, from 15 of Ontarios finest cider producers. OCCA co-founder Nick Sutcliffe hopes the festival will help promote and educate people in the city about craft cider: “[OCCA is] scattered all over the province a bit, and not too many of our members are in urban settings,” he said. “We’re trying to put ourselves on the map in Toronto a bit by coming down to where the bars and patios are.”
With events like the Ontario Craft Cider Week and support from the province’s bars, Sutcliffee and the OCCA are hoping to see more local ciders on tap across the province. “We’ve had a lot of support in bars in Toronto from the get-go,” he says, “but next year I imagine most bars will have at least a few Ontario ciders on tap.”
