Coast to Coast is an innovative dinner series launching again this summer at Stratus Vineyards.A Bringing together chefs from Ontario and Quebec at the beautiful LEED? certified winery in Niagara.
?The idea for the series grew out of our love of food and wine, and the generous nature that is inherent in so many leaders in the culinary arts,? said Charles Baker, Director of Marketing and Sales for Stratus.
While creating a memorable meal for Stratuss guests, the visiting chefs will work side by side with students from the Canadian Food and Wine Institute.A
“We loved the great learning opportunity that Coast to Coast afforded the culinary students at CFWI last year,? said Baker, ?and we appreciate how the students helped us to deliver a great experience for our guests.?
The chefs to be featured in 2013 are very diverse in background, in style and in geography so each dinner in the series will also have a unique flavour.
?We are standing the typical winemakers dinner on its head,? said Suzanne Janke, Director of Hospitality and Retail for Stratus. ?Instead of our winemaker visiting a chef at his or her restaurant, we are bringing national and international chefs with remarkable stories here to our home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and inviting our friends to join with us.?
Now in it’s second year, the lineup for this years’ series will include three dinners, all held in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
The first dinner, entitled “Into the Stratusphere” will feature Food Network Canada personality Bob Blumer appropriate, as the culinary adventurer, world traveller, author and chef who is also often called a ?gastronaut.?
Joining Blumer for this dinner is Billy Munnelly, Prince Edward County-based wine commentator and author of Billys Best Bottles. Munnelly advocates selecting your wine to go with your mood.
?He is irreverent and lighthearted, and should pair perfectly with Bob Blumer!? said Janke. ?And the wine will also delight,? continued Janke. ?We will feature our newest wine releases, many from the stellar 2010 vintage.?
Second in the series will be aA feast featuring Grand Chef Relais & ChA?teaux Normand Laprise of Quebec. Laprises famed Montreal restaurant ToquA! is also the inspiration for his newly released book ToquA! Creators of a new QuAbec Gastronomy.A This dinner is July 13 and will be hosted in the Press Alley of the winery.
Closing the Coast to Coast series for 2013 will be a Tri-Beckta evening on September 28 featuring Ottawa’s Chef Mike Moffatt–a two-time gold medal plates winner–and Proprietor Stephen Beckta. This dinner will cleverly feature courses in the genre of each of the groups three restaurants Beckta, Play and Gezellig.
?The synergy of interesting people, inspired food, and complex wines, against our amazing winery backdrop the whole will truly be greater than the sum of its parts,? promises Janke.
