Overfishing is the biggest issue our oceans, lakes and rivers face today. Do something about it. Join Canada’s growing sustainable seafood movement as top chefs compete head-to-head in Toronto for the title of 2014 Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown Champion. It’s your chance to join the movement… while tasting delectable, ocean-friendly seafood chowders paired with craft beers! The Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program works directly with restaurants, markets, food services and suppliers to ensure they have the most current scientific information regarding sustainable seafood and to help them make ocean-friendly buying decisions. The options are highlighted on their menus and display cases with the Ocean Wise symbol, making it easier for consumers to make ocean-friendly seafood choices. Ocean Wise seafood recommendations can be defined as species that are caught or farmed in a way that ensures the long-term health and stability of that species, as well as the greater marine ecosystem. In Ontario, that includes Lake Whitefish, Yellow Perch, Lake Trout, Rainbow Smelt, Walleye, White Perch, Rainbow Trout, Tilapia. What’s more, in Ontario, there are over 200 restaurants, retailers and suppliers committed to the cause. You can be part of the movement too! Join us at the Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown on November 4th at the Fermenting Cellar in Distillery District! Get you tickets here.
