School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts

The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts is hiring a full time Professor in the field of Special Event Planning. A Professor is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate will be teaching in classrooms, labs, and field settings including The Local Café and Restaurant and Centennial College Event Centre. He or she will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program accreditation, applied research initiatives, community outreach and on-going future program needs. The successful candidate will participate in academic leadership in the coordination of courses and/or programs to ensure curriculum quality, relevance, and currency, contribute to a positive learning experience for students and facilitate effective communications amongst colleagues. The Professor plays an important role in the successful delivery of students’ academic programs, key student contact, industry expert and importantly, steward of high academic quality.


  • Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment
  • Use academic technology effectively to enhance and support learning
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Develop and maintain contacts with relevant hospitality industry and professional associations
  • Work with Program Advisory Committee members in ensuring curriculum relevancy and currency
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management as well as external partners and community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
  • Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Work with Student Success Advisory in supporting students
  • Participate in recruitment events, retention meetings and new student orientations
  • Attends meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and participates in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity


  • Advance Diploma in Hospitality, Business or Management
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive managerial work experience in event operations
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level
  • Experience in course or learning materials development
  • Proven ability to use a variety of teaching/learning strategies at the college or university level
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning
  • Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
