This culinary leader will have a proven reputation for creative excellence and be ready to lead our award-winning Bistro ’67 Restaurant, along with contributing to the overall success of all operations at the W. Galen Weston Centre for Food.

 The Executive Chef is responsible for the food operations of Bistro ’67, which is quickly attracting prominent local and provincial attention for its field-to-fork vision. The Bistro has also attracted a number of industry designations, including Green Certification and FeastON status for its commitment to local foods and beverages. The Executive Chef’s position is ideal for an individual who will be inspired by the unique opportunity to work closely with a range of post-secondary programs and our retail store, both of which support the success of Bistro ’67 and help to develop a new generation of food and hospitality professionals. Our state-of-the-art kitchen provides our team with all the tools they require to create a unique dining experience in a creative learning environment that demonstrates what happens when communities, local farmers and education work together every day. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to design fresh and inspiring menus, incorporate his/her passion for field-to-fork into the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, work with students on a regular basis and engage with the broader community through unique events.

 As a Champion of ‘Field to Fork’ you will:

  • Lead a dynamic and creative kitchen team to ensure success of Bistro ‘67, along with incorporating your vision and personal flare into the development of seasonal menus, recipes, presentation and restaurant ambiance.
  • Ensure integration of Bistro ’67 with Pantry and the community, along with developing strong partnerships with the college’s post-secondary programs. This includes providing opportunities for students to gain hands-on experiences in a restaurant setting and working to ensure the college’s agricultural lands support Bistro menus.
  • Be the public face of Bistro ’67, creating an environment that fosters repeat customers and new business.
  • Develop and lead creative cooking experiences for key community clients and events.
  • Provide general leadership and direction for small and large events, both at the CFF and in the community.
    Build and develop relationships with farmers and other suppliers in Durham Region that will support the Bistro’s local food and beverage mandate.
  • Work with the Service Manager to actively seek out customer comments and feedback so as to constantly improve the customer experience and ensure excellent service.
  • Work with the General Manager to find creative ways to increase revenues and control costs, while also contributing to overall budget planning and monitoring.
  • Select and train kitchen staff and ensure staffing levels are appropriate at all times.
  • Take the lead on ordering and managing inventory, in collaboration with the college’s Food Distribution Area.
The successful candidate will possess a Red Seal Certification and an Ontario Food Handler’s Certificate. The incumbent will have a minimum of five years’ work experience in an Executive Chef role.  They will have a demonstrated ability to manage a heavy workload, including the need to work evenings and weekends, while maintaining attention to detail and possessing exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.  The successful incumbent will also possess excellent presentation and conflict-resolution skills and work effectively with a wide variety of customers, teams and groups.
